When we think of the baby’s skin, we imagine soft, rosy, velvety skin … but what mothers and fathers often do not imagine is that many blemishes and pimples may appear on the baby’s skin.
Some do not require treatment and will resolve over time. Others require some specific treatments, continued for months, or sometimes several different types of treatments.
6 causes of the appearance of pimples on the baby’s skin
The pediatrician will be the one who recommends one or another type of treatment, but I leave you a few clues to identify some pimples or others.
1.- Miliaria could be a cause of pimples on the baby’s skin
Miliaria is white and yellowish pimples that appear on the baby’s face, usually on the nose, chin, cheeks. They generally appear in the first weeks of life and usually disappear in the first months without leaving a trace. They are like the accumulation of fat on the baby’s skin.
2.- Neonatal acne or neonatorum
They appear in some newborns over 2-4 weeks of life. Neonatorum are red spots or spots and may have a white head, similar to acne vulgaris. They usually disappear on their own, but we can help with some mupirocin-type antibiotic ointment, and keeping the skin clean and dry.

3.- Cradle cap could be a cause of pimples on the baby’s skin
Cradle cap is a lesion that appears on the scalp or the baby’s forehead. They can exist for the entire first year of life. The skin becomes dry, flaky, similar to dandruff, yellowish scales are shed. They are improved with special oils, which can be left to act at night and gently remove skin remnants with gauze in the morning.
4.- Atopic eczema
The skin is red, rough, thick, and scaly, on the cheeks, scalp, elbows, diaper area, knees. Sometimes it occurs in families with allergy or asthma problems. In some cases, it requires very intensive moisturizing treatment and even topical corticosteroids. It can last the first few years of life or even into adulthood.
5.- Miliaria crystalline could be a cause of pimples on the baby’s skin
They are granites with a red base and a white tip, rough to the touch, that appear on the upper part of the back, neck, folds. Miliaria crystalline or heat rash is caused by sweat or excessive heat. They are not very bothersome for the baby, although sometimes they can itch a little. The skin must be kept very dry, especially after bathing and in areas of folds, and well hydrated.
6.- Rash diseases
Many of the infectious diseases that children have in the first years of life present with rashes. In certain types, the rashes are very characteristic, and in others, they are not so typical. The most frequent are scarlet fever, roseola, infectious erythema or fifth disease, hand-foot-mouth disease, chickenpox, sudden rash, rubella, measles.
