  • A towel or absorbent cloth
  • Hot water in a container

How one does

  • Soak the towel in warm water.
  • Then place it on the baby’s tummy.
  • Gently massage the baby’s abdomen with the towel in a circular motion for 3-5 minutes. Be careful not to irritate the baby’s skin.
  • Repeat twice daily to help expel gases.

NOTE:  avoid using heat packs or heating pads on newborns.

Mint leaves have soothing properties that help relieve colic in babies. It is not recommended to use it too much or in the form of mint oil,  but mint tea is suitable for this problem.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon mint leaves
  • 2 1/2 dl water

Preparation

  • Put the mint leaves in the boiling water.
  • Cover the drink and let it steep for 20 minutes before straining.

Use

  • Give your baby 2-3 tablespoons of hot (not hot) tea.
  • Repeat 2-3 times a day if you think it is necessary.

NOTE: Menthol maybe a little too strong for newborns, and therefore do not overdo it. If adverse reactions occur, stop this treatment immediately and talk to your doctor.

The antispasmodic and relaxing properties of chamomile can relieve an upset stomach. It is perfect for expelling gases – one of the primary causes of colic in babies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon chamomile
  • 1 1/4 dl water

Preparation

  • Pour the chamomile into the boiling water.
  • Cover the drink and let it steep for 20 minutes.
  • When it is hot or cool, strain.

Use

Give your baby two tablespoons of this tea several times a day.

Giving your baby a relaxing massage can help relieve the discomfort of colic. Gently massaging its stomach stimulates the expulsion of gases, which relieves pain.

What you need

  • Baby oil or essential oil (lavender, rose, etc.)

How one does

  • Apply several drops of oil on your hands and rub them a little to warm it up.
  • Then massage the baby’s abdomen with gentle circular motions clockwise.
  • Massage for 3-5 minutes until the baby calms down.

  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds

Preparation

  • Pour the chamomile and fennel seeds into the boiling water.
  • Cover and let soak for about 20 minutes.

Use

  • When the tea is hot (not hot), give the baby 2-3 tablespoons.
  • Repeat if the discomfort persists.

NOTE:  limit your intake to a maximum of three times a day.
